Practical Guidance for your Baby’s first 6 weeks

New and expecting parents are feeling unsure of their abilities, who to turn to, and are sometimes fearful of the huge responsibilities ahead of them. Some new parents have very little or no support from distant family members and friends. Grandparents, aunties and siblings are not close by to answer questions and share their experiences and wisdom. It’s not only a sign of the times, but also the result of new families living in a large metropolitan city. Many new parents are searching the internet for advice and it can be overwhelming!

Our hearts go out to these new families, so we have developed a non-medical, practical, concise and hands-on 4-hour course to help allay their fear of the unknown.
Soon to be parents, new parents, grandparents or any support person who will be involved with baby can attend our course and can ask us questions about newborn care and breastfeeding/chestfeeding in a safe and supportive environment.

Lorraine and I first met when we became doulas. We would attend different trainings together. With her warmth and smile it was hard not to become friends. From there we became teaching partners, training new doulas. So it is only natural that when I had the idea of creating a new parents course, I would call Lorraine and get her on board too. Lorraine is a wealth of knowledge. She is a Breastfeeding Counsellor, who absolutely adores babies. Lorraine developed the breastfeeding/chestfeeding portion of this class and I developed the comfort portion. Lorraine is also a Mom to two grown children, who she is super proud of. We are excited to share our skills and experiences with new families.

Anne and Lorraine's pre-natal course was fantastic!! I took away so much practical knowledge and so many useful, hands-on skills. I felt WAY more prepared to welcome baby into our family after learning all that Anne had to teach us. Despite reading books and blogs online, there is just no comparison to in-person learning. It was also wonderful to have an opportunity to connect with other first-time and expectant parents. It was reassuring having a better sense of what to expect for ourselves and what is typical and expected of a newborn as well. I highly recommend this course!!
In addition to the course, Anne’s experience as a Doula was invaluable. We welcomed our Little into the world and Anne went above and beyond. Early on, her and Lorraine helped us with breastfeeding and latch support. Not only that, Anne gave us LITERALLY the best gift a person can give new parents... the gift of sleep!! We got to have a few night shifts with her, which was a blessing. She was also there for us to answer any of our sleep related questions (or otherwise - and still is to this day!) and she helped guide us in teaching our little to learn how to put herself to sleep. With Anne’s guidance we were lucky to have our baby sleeping through the night by the time she was about 3 months old (she was a big baby)! Honestly I can’t describe the depth of gratitude I felt each time we tried one of Anne’s suggestions and it worked (which was every time). We can’t thank you enough Anne!

This was an enjoyable course. Anne created a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The course was very informative and you didn’t feel like you were being lectured. I learned how to make baby into a burrito (i.e., how to swaddle a baby), among other things. I left feeling much better prepared for what was to be expected. After Malia was born, Anne helped us learn how to help her sleep without us having to bounce her for hours on end. That was huge!!! Thank you Anne!
